About our project

Our goal for this project was to emulate the different ways of knowing that we have

explored as a class throughout this quarter. As we discussed how we would approach the project,

all of us saw these ways of knowing as lenses through which we could view a central issue. As a

group, we chose to focus on climate change, a multifaceted, complicated issue that is best

addressed from many disciplines. We wrote opposing worldview opinion pieces, conducted an

interview with a historical figure, wrote a children's story and poem accompanied by illustrations,

created a map to show the geography and culture of climate change, and designed a quiz to

exercise philosophical methods when addressing climate change. Though these individual pieces

may seem a bit disjointed at first glance, they are brought together by the overarching issue. But

most importantly, we have learned that there are a multitude of ways to look at any

topic. This passage both sums up our goal for this project and the class as a whole: “knowledge has

social life, and its movements and transformations must be addressed. To know is to engage.” We have engaged these different ways of knowing to gain a deeper understanding of climate change.
