You invested a lot of money into implementing experimental methods of geoengineering to address
climate change.
Flash forward 100 years:
Deforestation is the lowest it’s been in almost 2 centuries. 20 years ago, tons of iron were dumped into
the oceans to promote algae growth for biomass, but this caused a depletion in the nutrients that
support the food webs of the ocean. The effects are now being seen, and there is now a marine-life
crisis, and sea creatures of all species are seeing higher mortality rates. In an attempt to reduce solar
input to Earth, you jetted huge amounts of reflective aerosols into the atmosphere. These aerosols
reacted harmfully with other chemicals in the atmosphere, and this has caused a depletion in the ozone
layer, negating any positive impact they may have had to begin with. These aerosols are impossible to
remove from the atmosphere, so now scientists are frantically trying to find a solution to the issue
before the ozone layer is too damaged.
