You invested a lot of money into both carbon abatement and into researching the safety of
geoengineering tactics.
Flash forward 100 years:
The money spent researching was of no use, since you weren’t willing to take any risks- there was
always some amount of risk associated with any researched geoengineering tactics, so they were never
implemented. Thanks to your investments in alternative energy, developed countries emit less than 10%
of the carbon dioxide they once did: everything is solar, nuclear, or wind powered. Cars operating on
gasoline are no longer seen on the streets, as they are outlawed in most developed countries. Some cars
now even operate on biomass. Unfortunately, many of the birds that once lived on Earth are now
endangered or extinct, thanks to harm caused by the large wind turbines scattered across the world.
Climate change is still a threat to the Earth, but it develops at a much slower rate. Water levels are still
rising, and people on coastal or islandic lands are preparing to need to evacuate their homes due to
flooding. Essentially, you’ve bought yourself some time to find a more impactful solution to climate
change before extreme weather wreaks havoc on the planet.
